Book illustration

I have been hand drawing and enhancing printouts of digital work i produced on illustrator to give a more bespoke feel to the work. The typefaces I'm using here are "Green Fuzz" and  "Danzig".  Im going to further experiment with colour treatments and also produce another 10 images to be bound into a book of mini posters with a twilight zone theme. Hence why the posters have a little bit of a macabre/ scifi feel.

some experiments with colour, I think the brighter colours arent working and that i'll need to go for someting darker for the finals, however I do like the green for the Zeta poster.

initial sketches

Some initial experiments for my book's content - I wanted to experiment with my gloopy typefaces again and I think they do fit with my theme, but the actual content of what the poster is saying is wrong. Im thinking about calling myself 9000 in the future too, so That is why that is written in the bottom corner, these were only experiments - and this will definitely not be there on the finals.

Scale, Frame, Format

I just want to say here, I got a rough deal here! I really had no interest in drawing a ballet shoe in any way shape or form and I genuinely believe that a ballet shoe is illegible. It just is! unless you draw it to a photo- real standard in artist pencils... because that's the sort of thing it is.

This opinion probably really showed in the poster as it was probably my weakest piece of work in the second year. Non the less, I did it, and it failed.

But! You have to make mistakes in order to learn from them. I learnt - creating Ballet themed imagery is not a personal preferance.

This poster was just a simple idea based on the quote; "More Careless On The Right Ones"
-in which the text down the right hand side of the poster was messy and eroded and appeared more careless that the type on the left hand side.

It was a quick resolution and a quick idea. Could have definately been done better. just interms of quality, for example I recon if the text was done in 3d with wood, that gradually erodes towards the right hand side or something like that, and then delivered in a photograph. But as the set of these 3 posters stand I have an illustration, a photograph and a digitally produced one.

I went for the literal visual translation here, and recycled household junk to create this poster.
In the portfolio this takes shape as an A3 poster, but I think I'm going to redo this an uni with a better camera with a better image resolution that can be blown up to a bigger scale and therefor have a clearer image resolution.

The image quality is shit but I do like the image itsself and I think this would be worth re doing with a better camera.

Final thymus glands poster. I ended up screen printing this poster on A3 because of the size of the original image - I also did a digital colour treatment of this image which I am interested in digitally printing in a different format, hopefully before the module hand in date.

I feel like I really learnt something whilst creating this image, that to be an illustrator you can really broaden your horizons and this was the first time I produced a really effective looking piece of illustrative type. I am definately interested in producing more imagery similar to this.
