more images of work from the negotiated brief.

Some images I liked So i thought I would post them up on here to serve no other purpose really that to look at.

Poster 3

Words: Plum, Head, Character.

I wasnt sure what to do with this image initially because I couldnt decide on wether to put type in the image or just have a characters head. I also wanted to follow suit with simplicity keeping it similar to the other two posters produced so I was messing around with basic shapes when I decided to spell the word plum out of these shapes, whilst also making two character heads out of the same shapes. I think this poster is my favourite.

Fun times! again the poster is A3 portrait with black and pink on stock, with a gloss overprint over the black outlines (waste not want not) The screens caoting started to deteriorate mid print run on this print, which is probably because I layed the coating on too thin, but non the less I think the poster has turned out rather nice.

The photograph was creating using the misses, her kid sister and the kid sisters bloke. (Jess, Lucy and Callum) I paper crafted the masks and stuck them to wooden spoons. Lucy and callum are holding these whilst jess holds up the pink circles that were cut out of card. Really fun image methinks. With the crafted images  I wanted to have fun and not get too furstrated with comparing them exactly to the posters. I think I have achieved some good result and Im definately happy.

poster 2

Words: Anosa, Geometric, fat

I wanted to use illustrative type for this image, and the word geometric dictates that I have to use basic shapes to create this image like triangles and squares - but "Fat" kind of contradicts this for me because fat means round, so I just created imagery that blended these two together to get some fat geometry going on.

Before Im critiqued too harshly on this, I had to take the photograph in daylight, because as you can most likely tell, I dont own the best quality image producing camera in the world. So, The poster is pink and black on stock, with gloss overprint on the type and I was going for very simple visuals here, whilst trying to convey fat geometry... The type kind of looks like a marshmallow of chewing gum or something like that so I think that also relates to it being fat, with the pointy triangles and squares doing their geometric thang.

The crafty Image was fun but also extremely frustrating to produce ( I also feel like my poo camera let me down at the final stage here - not so bad in the clavius image but I think its more noticable here.) Because I wanted to create a plush version of the type, and over stuff it making it look really chubby and malformed, but This went drastically wrong on the sewing machine (even with expert supervision). So basically, I got my expert to do it for me, and she produced a quilted version of the type which was much simpler to produce. It's almost as impressive as plush would have been, so I'm Happy. P.S, the cloud is made of kapoc (stuffing).

poster 1

Words: Clavius, Space, Liquid

The idea behind this poster was to create some type for the word clavius that looked like it was from the outer reaches of space - Coincedentally, the word Clavius is form a film called 2001 a space odyssey, in which clavius is the name for a planet. I wanted the type to be black and shiny like the monolith out of 2001 a space odyssey, this would also give the type some liquid properties.

For the silkscreen print I used Heavy cartridge paper, with black ink. The Image is bitmapped to pick up gradients and has a gloss overprint over the type, with a pink overprint (exposed onto my screen using a ten pence.) on top to keep to my two colour plus stock limitation.

The 3d crafty Image was made using papercraft and spray paint for the back drop, and using jelly that I had dyed black for the foreground. Now, jelly is a really unpredictable substance to cut type out of and the expect to stand up by itsself on a paper crafted background. Despite this I do really like the effect the jelly gives and how it looks almost like black glass or something. A messy, smelly bit of crafting here, but I think it was worth it.

Image Negotiated brief.

I decided to do another take on the 2d>3d>2d brief because I felt that If I had more creative choice of randomised words that I could really get my teeth into and create some strong visuals with.

My format is A3 portrait.

The randomised words consist of nouns, adjectives and shapes :
space, round, shiny, liquid, fat, clavius, aplomb, plum, anosa, geometric, triangle, circle, simple, basic, halftone, character, head.

I have decided to put a two colour limitation not including stock or overprints on the print based side of this brief. These colours will be pink and black.

The brief initially set was to produce 5 A3 Screenprinted posters on A3 portrait format, due to time limitations I have narrowed this down to 3 posters - of which will then be translated visually into a 3d format and then photographed. This will give me 6 outcomes.

2d>3d>2d progress and solution

The words I got were: Hoody, Biting nails, In the lounge

How great!
So I first drew out an Image.

I then recreated this using my hoody and a bit of nice coloured paper.

So there it is, A hoody, biting its nails in the lounge. Hopefully the shag carpet helps to show that this situation is happening in a lounge near a fireplace sort of thing. There were suggestions of stuffing the hoody to make it look more alive, but the words were a hoody, biting its nails, in the lounge - not a stuffed hoody trying to look like its alive biting its nails in the lounge. anyway yes there we have it. It would be nice to look at this sort of project more in depth and produce stronger visuals to a similar brief. I enjoyed this brief definately.
