The idea behind this poster was to create some type for the word clavius that looked like it was from the outer reaches of space - Coincedentally, the word Clavius is form a film called 2001 a space odyssey, in which clavius is the name for a planet. I wanted the type to be black and shiny like the monolith out of 2001 a space odyssey, this would also give the type some liquid properties.
For the silkscreen print I used Heavy cartridge paper, with black ink. The Image is bitmapped to pick up gradients and has a gloss overprint over the type, with a pink overprint (exposed onto my screen using a ten pence.) on top to keep to my two colour plus stock limitation.
The 3d crafty Image was made using papercraft and spray paint for the back drop, and using jelly that I had dyed black for the foreground. Now, jelly is a really unpredictable substance to cut type out of and the expect to stand up by itsself on a paper crafted background. Despite this I do really like the effect the jelly gives and how it looks almost like black glass or something. A messy, smelly bit of crafting here, but I think it was worth it.
